West Virginia has some of the best outdoor adventure opportunities, and the Mountain State is well known for its whitewater rafting. Why not use the whitewater to refresh your meeting?

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War. The harrowing battle raged for four years, pitting brother against brother at the cost of more than 600,000 lives. Out of the war, however, there rose a new state, and the only one created as a direct result of the war—West Virginia.

In discussions about the resources in the great State of West Virginia, our abundant coal and natural gas reserves, the rich tracts of timber in our forests and our rich soil for agriculture come to mind. The state also possesses many resources that are not as easy to quantify, such as natural beauty, friendly people and interesting places that are rich with history. There is no place that these resources are more evident than through the eyes of the motorcoach industry.

Agritourism continues to grow in popularity in West Virginia, but the industry is still far from meeting its potential. According to the 2007 U.S. Census of Agriculture, agritourism accounted for $566 million in revenue across the country and $970,000 in West Virginia, not including bed and breakfasts, campgrounds, wineries or fairs and festivals—categories normally considered to fall under the agritourism umbrella.
